Favourite Books & Films
Books and movies, though relatively recent additions to my life, have profoundly shaped my worldview. They made me realize how much books and even narrative video games can transport me and challenge my perspectives. Here are a few that have had a lasting impact on me.
Favourite Books
Mon traƮtre
by Sorj Chalandon
A deeply moving novel that I discovered in French class, my first book in several years. I loved the themes it explored, particularly betrayal, loyalty, and the complexities of Irish history. It made me think about difficult choices and the consequences of our actions.
The Alchemist
by Paulo Coelho
A philosophical story that I recently discovered and really took to heart. The very important themes it addresses made me think about the search for oneself and discovering one's desires, inspiring me to listen to my heart and follow my own aspirations.
Three Days of Happiness
by Sugaru Miaki
A thought-provoking light novel that asks deep questions about the worth of a life and what happiness really means. The story follows Kusunoki, a directionless young man who sells almost all of his remaining lifespan for money, keeping only a short span to live, and ends up confronting life, relationships, and what it truly means to find joy in the limited time he has left.
Favourite Films
Linda Linda Linda
Directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita (2005)
A film that really moved me. It tells a story of friendship, music, and the little moments of teenage life with incredible sincerity. I loved the way it shows the bond between the characters and the passion that can arise from a simple shared experience.
All About Lily Chou-Chou
Directed by Shunji Iwai (2001)
The film explores the fragility of adolescence, isolation, and the quest for beauty in a sometimes cruel world. The themes addressed had a profound impact on me, leading me to reflect on loneliness, music, and the need for human connection. The music is extremely well used, and the classical music is perfect.
Good Will Hunting
Directed by Gus Van Sant (1997)
This film inspired me enormously. It tells the story of a brilliant young man confronted with his own limitations and traumas. I was touched by the way it addresses friendship, love, and the importance of believing in yourself in order to realize your potential.
